BELVEDERE, Marin County — October 31, 2026. Construction crews have been installing steel sheet piles along the Beach Road waterfront to strengthen the aging seawall that protects part of Belvedere Lagoon. The project’s original late-October target is now in question, with local officials discussing work that could extend into November.
What is being built?
The shoreline stabilization project is meant to reinforce approximately 550–600 feet of vulnerable seawall, which engineers say faces erosion, tidal pressure and earthquake risks. A San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission permit application described a combination of sheet piling and concrete supports along Beach Road. The work forms part of Belvedere’s broader effort to reduce earthquake and storm-surge damage.
Why might it run late?
As reported by The Ark following the October 7 oversight meeting, Public Works Director Antony Boyd said utility coordination and construction sequencing had made the October 30 in-water deadline difficult. Crews were placing 42-foot piles and prioritizing waterfront work before returning to streetside details. The city was considering whether an extension might be necessary.
What is confirmed—and what isn’t?
Installation work in October is confirmed, but we have not established that the full project was completed by October 31 or that any requested extension was formally granted. Drivers and pedestrians should check posted construction notices for traffic, noise and access restrictions. Nearby residents should look for official updates rather than assuming a projected date establishes an actual opening.
